Make sure it is not this instead
The two palmetto bug species. Scale settles it instantly. A German cockroach is small, pale tan and marked with two dark parallel stripes; an American or smokybrown is two to four times the length and dark reddish or mahogany. Habitat is just as reliable. If it came out of a warm gap beside the dishwasher or from behind the fridge motor, you have the indoor breeder. If it came in under a door, out of a floor drain, or dropped off a soffit, you have one of the outdoor species and a completely different job.
How it gets dealt with properly
The job is slow, detailed and unglamorous.
